In a shocking and tragic incident that has left the community of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, reeling, two firefighters were killed, and another critically injured during an ambush attack while responding to a wildland fire on Canfield Mountain. The victims have been identified as Battalion Chief John Morrison, 52, and Battalion Chief Frank Harwood, 42, both of whom dedicated their lives to serving their community. The injured firefighter, Engineer Dave Tisdel, is currently in critical condition following multiple surgeries.

During a press conference, Fire Chief Tom G. Drive expressed profound sorrow over the unimaginable loss, urging respect for the grieving families and the firefighters still bravely serving the community. The attack, described as one of the darkest days in the department’s history, unfolded unexpectedly as the firefighters arrived on the scene, where they were met with gunfire. Law enforcement is actively investigating the incident, which has left the community in shock and mourning.

The fire departments have received an overwhelming outpouring of support from local and regional agencies, as well as from the public. Donations are being organized to assist the families of the fallen and injured firefighters. Chief Drive emphasized the importance of focusing on the lives lost and the families affected, rather than the details of the ongoing investigation.

As the community rallies together to honor these brave public servants, a procession is planned to pay tribute to the fallen firefighters, inviting the public to line the streets in support. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the motives behind this senseless act of violence against those who risk their lives to protect others.
