The football world is in shock and mourning after the tragic death of Diogo Jota, star of Liverpool and the Portuguese national team, who was killed in a serious car accident alongside his brother, André Silva, in the province of Zamora, Spain. The accident happened in the early hours of July 3, when the Lamborghini they were traveling in lost control due to a tire burst while overtaking at high speed, rolled over several times and caught fire violently, making any chance of rescue impossible.
Images released by the Spanish press showed the car completely destroyed and charred on the side of the road. Jota and his brother died instantly. The victims could only be identified by the license plate of the vehicle, such was the level of devastation caused by the accident.
The news shocked not only family and friends, but the entire football community. Cristiano Ronaldo, Jota’s teammate on the Portuguese national team, could not hide his pain when he was informed and saw the images of the accident site. In an emotional statement, Ronaldo declared:

The tragedy comes just days after Jota’s wedding to Rute Cardoso, with whom he built a beautiful family. Portuguese and international football joins forces in solidarity at this time of grief, paying tribute to one of the most brilliant and beloved talents of his generation.
