‘This is potentially Watergate-esque,’ says Rep. Fallon on Trump-Russia origins (video)

In a recent interview, Texas Congressman Pat Fallon, a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committees, expressed grave concerns over the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, likening it to Watergate. His comments come in the wake of allegations made by former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who has accused the Obama administration of using government resources to undermine then-candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

Fallon, echoing Gabbard’s sentiments, stated that there is no evidence supporting claims of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Instead, he asserted that there is “mounting evidence” indicating that members of the Obama administration were involved in a concerted effort to aid Hillary Clinton’s campaign while actively obstructing Trump’s candidacy. He believes that these actions may represent serious violations of the Hatch Act and could even be criminal in nature.

When asked if Gabbard’s characterization of the situation as an “attempted coup” was an exaggeration, Fallon suggested that it might not be overstating the gravity of the circumstances. He noted that the more they delve into the investigation, the more alarming the findings appear. “This is potentially Watergate-esque,” he remarked, signaling that he believes the implications of these revelations could be profound.

Fallon emphasized that the investigation into these allegations will remain a priority. He highlighted the need for transparency and truth, urging that these matters should be of concern to all, regardless of party affiliation.

The conversation also shifted to the topic of budget cuts and oversight within the federal government. Fallon praised the work of the Oversight Committee, specifically noting potential savings from eliminating fraud and waste, which he estimates to be in the hundreds of billions of dollars. He pointed to the cancellation of 89 contracts by the Department of Education as an example of effective oversight, claiming it saved taxpayers $1.1 billion.

Additionally, Fallon addressed concerns regarding cuts to foreign assistance programs, which some critics argue could diminish America’s global influence. He countered that funding initiatives like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in other nations detracts from U.S. interests and instead advocates for investments in infrastructure and development that align with American goals.

As he concluded the interview, Fallon underscored his belief that the political landscape has become increasingly polarized, with federal bureaucrats—regardless of their party affiliation—becoming increasingly politicized. He expressed concern over the use of partisan rhetoric within military and government contexts.

As the investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia claims continues to unfold, Fallon’s remarks suggest that it will remain a contentious issue in American politics, one that could redefine perceptions of accountability in government.
