In a fiery address that reverberated across social media and news outlets, Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in South Africa, delivered a powerful message against tribalism and xenophobia during his visit to Nigeria. Malema’s speech, laden with urgency, called for unity among African nations and denounced the rising tide of xenophobic sentiment that has plagued South Africa.

“Xenophobia is a betrayal of African unity,” Malema declared, as he highlighted the deep-rooted economic disparities that fuel such hostilities. He pointed out that Nigerians, Zimbabweans, Congolese, and Somalis are not the culprits behind South Africa’s unemployment crisis; rather, the blame lies with an untransformed economy controlled by a white minority and multinational corporations.

Malema’s impassioned plea emphasized the need for Africans to come together, dismantling barriers that hinder economic collaboration. He argued for a future where young Nigerian engineers can work freely in South Africa and vice versa, fostering a spirit of partnership rather than suspicion. “We do not need visas to travel within our continent,” he asserted, calling for seamless cooperation to uplift the African economy.

The EFF leader also underscored the shared historical struggles of African nations against colonialism and imperialism, urging solidarity in the face of global exploitation. He condemned the hypocrisy of international legal systems that swiftly act against African leaders while hesitating to hold powerful Western nations accountable for their actions.

Malema’s address serves as a rallying cry for pan-African unity, urging Africans to reject division and embrace a collective identity. “Our liberation is incomplete if we ignore the struggles of our brothers and sisters,” he stated, reinforcing the notion that the fight for justice transcends borders. As the world watches, Malema’s words resonate as a call to action for a united Africa, ready to reclaim its narrative and destiny.
