FIRST TAKE | DUBS IN 5! – Stephen A.: Warriors will beat T-Wolves under Butler’s lead if Curry’s out

In a tightly contested matchup, the Golden State Warriors edged out the Minnesota Timberwolves 89-88, despite the absence of their star player, Stephen Curry, who suffered a hamstring injury during the second quarter. Curry, who contributed 13 points in just 13 minutes before his injury, will undergo further testing today to assess the severity of his condition.

Following the game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed concern for Curry’s health but praised his team’s effort in overcoming adversity. “I talked to him at halftime; he’s obviously crushed, but the guys picked him up and played a great game,” Kerr stated. He emphasized the team’s resilience and readiness to compete, regardless of Curry’s status moving forward. “We’re all concerned about Steph, but it’s part of the game. Any team with him on it has a chance, and my guys believe it too.”

The victory was significantly bolstered by the performance of Draymond Green, who had an outstanding first half, scoring 14 points and hitting four three-pointers. Additionally, Buddy Hield contributed significantly, showcasing his shooting prowess. However, the game’s outcome raises questions about the Warriors’ ability to maintain their success if Curry is unable to play in the upcoming games.

Jimmy Butler of the Timberwolves also showcased his talent, coming close to a triple-double with an impressive performance. Despite his efforts, the Timberwolves struggled to find their rhythm, particularly concerning their three-point shooting, as they finished the night with a dismal 5-for-29 from beyond the arc. Analysts noted that the team failed to capitalize on open looks and struggled offensively, with key players like Anthony Edwards not performing to expectations.

Commentators have pointed out that Minnesota entered the series as a favorite due to their size and defensive capabilities. Still, their performance in Game 1 left many surprised, including former player and analyst Jay Williams, who expressed skepticism about Minnesota’s chances moving forward. Williams highlighted the necessity for the Timberwolves to adapt and improve their offensive strategies if they hope to capitalize on the Warriors’ vulnerabilities without Curry.

As the series progresses, the focus will undoubtedly be on Curry’s recovery and the Warriors’ capacity to maintain their form. Should Curry miss additional games, the spotlight will shift to Butler and the Timberwolves, who need to exploit any advantages they can muster against a potentially weakened Golden State lineup. The forthcoming matches will be critical in determining the series’ outcome, as both teams look to assert their dominance in the playoffs.
