‘DISGUSTING’: GOP lawmaker slams anti-Trump activists for burning US flags on July 4 (video)

On July 4th, Independence Day, protests erupted across the United States, drawing attention for their controversial display of anti-Trump sentiment, including the burning of the American flag. This act sparked outrage among many, particularly among veterans and those who view the flag as a symbol of sacrifice and national pride. Texas Congressman Wesley Hunt, an Army veteran, expressed his disgust at the protests during a recent interview, highlighting the significance of the flag and what it represents to Americans.

In a passionate statement, Hunt, who has personal ties to the military and the American Dream, described the flag as a symbol draped over the caskets of service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. “It represents every American who loves this great nation,” he stated, emphasizing the deep emotional connection that many feel toward the flag. While he acknowledged the protesters’ right to express their opinions, he suggested that a more respectful form of protest would be to leave the country if they are dissatisfied with it.

For Hunt, seeing images of flag burning is particularly painful given his service and the sacrifices made by his fellow veterans. “It is devastating,” he remarked, reflecting on the loss of friends and comrades in service. He recalled the folded flags handed to widows at military funerals, symbolizing the ultimate sacrifice made by those who defend the nation. Such images starkly contrast with the displays of dissent he witnessed on a day dedicated to celebrating the nation’s independence.

Hunt also commented on the recent resurgence of patriotism in the U.S., attributing part of it to the leadership of former President Donald Trump. He noted that many Americans yearn for a renewed sense of pride in their country, which he believes is essential for the nation’s future. In his view, the Independence Day celebrations, including fireworks and military flyovers, serve to inspire a collective love for the nation.

Reflecting on military operations, Hunt praised the efforts of U.S. forces in maintaining global peace without deploying ground troops, citing successful missions that have safeguarded national security. He expressed pride in the military’s ability to achieve objectives while minimizing risks to service members, underscoring his commitment to a strong America.

As the nation continues to grapple with divisions over political beliefs and expressions of dissent, Hunt’s remarks resonate with those who view the flag as a cherished emblem of unity and sacrifice. His call for respect and appreciation for the freedoms fought for by countless Americans serves as a reminder of the values that underpin the nation’s identity.
